If you or someone you are with
experiences the symptoms of a heart
attack, call 9-1-1 immediately.
For many who experience the
symptoms of a heart attack, care is
rst administered on the scene by
Hamilton Emergency Medical Services
paramedics and emergency medical
technicians EMTs. Receiving care
by EMS rst has many advantages.
When the paramedics and emergency
medical technicians EMTs arrive, they
determine if the patient is experiencing
a heart attack. Then they work directly
with the medical staff at Hamilton
Medical Center’s accredited Chest Pain
Center so that preparations are made
ahead of the patient’s arrival. Not only
is medical care administered on the
scene, but it is also performed en route
to the hospital. This timely care saves
lives, because during a heart attack,
every second counts.
Once a patient arrives at Hamilton
Medical Center, medical care is
continued in our accredited Chest Pain
Center. If needed, a diagnostic heart
catheterization will be performed to
determine if there are any blockages
in the patient’s heart. If blockages
are found, stents can be inserted
immediately to restore blood ow.
After a short time to recover, patients
are encouraged to enroll in Hamilton’s
Cardiac Rehabilitation Program
at Bradley Wellness Center. This
medically supervised exercise program
is specically designed for recovering
heart patients. Participants are
under the supervision of physicians,
exercise physiologists, a registered
nurse, and a registered dietitian. The
program includes EKG-monitored
exercises, individualized exercise
programs, educational sessions,
nutrition consultations, and more.
Eligible patients include those who
have had a heart attack within the last
year, bypass surgery, valve repair or
replacement, stents, congestive heart
failure, peripheral artery disease, or a
heart or lung transplant. Medicare and
most health insurance plans cover the
cost of the program.
Hamilton Medical Center also offers
the Progressive Rehabilitative Exercise
Program PREP. PREP is a supervised
group exercise program for those
who have high blood pressure, stable
angina, congestive heart failure,
diabetes, cancer, pulmonary disease, or
other chronic health conditions. This
program includes an individualized
exercise program, clinical supervision
and assistance, health-related
education, a free dietary consultation,
a cholesterol check, and a great
support system!
