A NICU STORY
Hamilton Medical Center’s Turner Maternal and Infant Care
Center Neonatal Intensive Care Unit NICU is home to
many beautiful stories, including those of Cole Bridenstine,
Thatcher Hollingsworth, and Tucker Roberts who are
pictured in this issue of Hamilton Health magazine. Here is
another NICU success story:
“I had a great pregnancy,” says Elizabeth. “I never thought my
baby would need to go into the NICU.”
Elizabeth and Carlos Morales were excited to become new
parents. Their family was ready and waiting to welcome
their son, Yasiel. However, a few hours after he was born, his
breathing became labored. “I knew something wasn’t right,”
says Carlos. “His cry didn’t sound normal.”
Elizabeth delivered Yasiel at a neighboring hospital, so he
was transferred to Hamilton Medical Center’s NICU by
Hamilton’s Neonatal Specialty Mobile Medical Unit and
Transport Team. Hamilton transports infants from around
the region to Dalton, caring for babies from Murray, Gordon,
Bartow, Pickens, Gilmer, and Fannin counties.
Once at Hamilton Medical Center, Yasiel underwent several
tests. “It was really hard for us during this time because I was
at one hospital and Carlos and Yasiel were at another,” says
Elizabeth. But thankfully, after several days of respiratory
support and antibiotic treatment in the NICU, Yasiel was
ready to go home.
