OFF-ROADING
AGAIN
“I’ve been active my whole life,” says John McKinney. “I played football and ran cross country in high school. Since then, I
discovered that I love cycling, both on-road and off-road.” John has even competed in mountain bike adventure races and half
marathons. It was a shock, when at age 48, both of his knees began to hurt to the point that he was barely able to walk up and
down stairs.
“Going up and down stairs or even just getting in and out of a car, became almost unbearable,” says John. “Of course, running
and most any exercise was out of the question. To be honest, I started feeling depressed, thinking that the active chapter of
my life was possibly behind me.”
Then John learned of Hamilton Physician Group-Neurosurgery and Spine. “I went to see Dr. Hare to see if he could offer me
any relief. He suggested the Coolief procedure.”
Coolief is a non-invasive, outpatient option for those suffering from chronic knee, hip, or back pain. The procedure uses
cooled radiofrequency energy to target the sensory nerves causing pain.
“Coolief circulates water to create a treatment area that is larger than conventional RF treatments,” says Josh Hare, DO, of
Hamilton Physician Group-Neurosurgery and Spine. “This combination targets the pain-causing nerves, leading to increased
pain relief.”
Studies have demonstrated that this treatment can provide up to 24 months of relief.1 Most patients are able to return to
their normal activities within a few weeks after the procedure.
