better part of the months of March and April
making masks, and was one of the fi rst to
make masks in children’s sizes.
Yuliy Fedoryshyn of Gasparilla Outfi tters
& Special Effects began creating polyester
buffs as an alternative to cotton masks, and
they can be worn all year long with pride. Not
only are they easier to pull over your nose,
but Yuliy’s neck gaiters feature the works of
many local artists on them. Shop owner Robin
Melvin recruited local artists including Maria
Sax Bone, Daniel Godwin, Melanie Cameron,
Judy Ikenberry and more to allow their work
to be reproduced on the buffs.
These face coverings have been used for
years by anglers and others who spend a lot

have one make sure to keep it handy in the
boat, and in your work or beach bag. You can

or at the store (Gasparilla Outfi tters & Special
Effects on Park Avenue) in Boca Grande.
v Thank You All
Thank you to everyone who came together and helped
the community through this very odd time in our history. No
one could have expected a “plague” in 2020, one that would
bring essentially everything to a standstill. Yet, that is what we
got, and with little experience in these matters we, the
people of Boca Grande, found new and innovative ways to
make quarantine bearable.
Many thanks to all of you!
