Artist Jim Warren is even
authorized to paint Disney characters.
Jim has
created a “Grand
Entrance” series
of work, including
this painting of
Superman.
The cover of this magazine, however, was done in
a new style that he calls abstract realism, which is a
change from his photo realism/surrealism and fantasy.
This change in direction was brought about when his son
Arte suggested that he loosen up and start to leave paint
on the canvas unblended and to try a more vibrant,
wild style. Jim tried Arte’s idea, and the result is a series
of pop culture paintings that
feature this new technique
proving, once again, we can
learn from those far younger
than ourselves. Just as Dalí
influenced Jim’s work in
high school, giving him
the courage to say, “Hell
with the rules...paint
what you like.”, his
son has encouraged
him to move in a
different style.
