said, ‘Yes, you are.’ And then I said, ‘OK,
maybe I am.’”
Odom added, “He had his way of working
the refs, and there were a lot of things
that I watched him do that I probably did a
lot more of than I thought I did.”
Keenly Aware Of Local Talent
As head coach for the Golden Eaglettes,
Worrell got to see the success of Odom’s
Lady Cavaliers, as well as numerous other
local programs. His Tech teams many times
featured local standouts, and he was well
aware of the talent in the Upper Cumberland
area.
“Every year when I recruited, I tried to
recruit better players than I did the year before,”
Worrell said. “Some years you did, and
some years you didn’t. But that was important
to me, and I always enjoyed watching all
the teams around here.”
While Worrell was already aware of
the talent locally, out-of-state coaches were
sometimes unexpectedly introduced to it in Photos Provided By Tennessee Technological Univesity.
