DR. MING WANG VISITS MONTEREY'S
WOODCLIFF BAPTIST CHURCH
By Tony Ashley
Dr. Ming Wang of Nashville
based Wang Vision Cataract &
LASIK Center recently visited
Monterey as guest speaker at
Woodcliff Baptist Church. His
message was oriented toward
the community’s youth and included
a candid talk concerning
his struggles as a young teen in
China and how it was much
different than the lives of our
youth here in America. Church
member, Barbara Combs, coordinated
the doctor’s visit so fellow
church members, especially
the youth, could be inspired by
his incredible life story.
Dr. Wang grew up in China
during the devastating Cultural
Revolution when millions of
youth were deported and condemned

to a lifetime of hard
labor and poverty. As a teenager
he learned to play the Chinese
er-hu, a musical instrument
similar to the violin, and joined
the government propaganda
program in order to escape deportation.
Dr. Wang discussed his long
and remarkable journey from
humble beginnings in China
to his current highly respected
status in the American medical
field. He also presented his
testimony and discussed his
transformation from an atheist
in China to an American believer.
His message included his
struggles concerning “Faith vs
Science” and how he answered
the question, are they “Friends
or Foes”. The message focused
on issues as whether science
and faith are contradictory and
whether certain areas of medical
research violate moral, ethical
and faith principles.
Dr. Wang’s incredible real
life story inspired a character in
the nationally acclaimed bestselling
book, ‘God’s Not Dead”.
The book paved the way for
the very popular 2014 blockbuster
movie of the same title
and included a character that
portrayed Dr. Wang. Due to
the success of the book and the
movie, God’s Not Dead 2 was
also released. The doctor is often
called upon to visit churches
in the Middle Tennessee area to
offer his testimony and discuss
the movies.
