TYBEE TURTLE TRANSIT
For only being 3 ½ miles long, getting around this little island of ours
can be tricky. Thankfully, we have a couple of excellent taxi services and
Tybee Turtle Transit is a definite go-to for getting to and fro when you
have been cocktailing or just don’t want to deal with driving and parking.
It is so much easier to pick up the phone and be delivered somewhere
without the hassle. It’s also cost conducive: You don’t have to pay to park
and you don’t have to pay for a DUI!
Al and Barbara Slocum are the proud owners of Tybee Turtle Transit.
Originally from the big ATL, the Slocums decided they needed a slower
change of pace and moved south. Al was an automotive mechanic forever
and Barbara was in the banking business. With that change came other
changes. Al started working for Island Hoppers in 2009, originally as a
mechanic, but happily changed to a driver shortly after starting. Falling in
love with all that is Tybee, Al and Barbara decided to start their own taxi
business in 2011 and thus Tybee Turtle Transit was born!
It’s been a tough haul but worth every moment! Now the proud owners
of a seven (7) seater golf cart, two (2) seven (7) seater minivans, and
one (1) 12 seating bus, Tybee Turtle Transit is going strong! With Tybee

becoming more and more popular as our secret gets out, I personally love
to see crazy, drunken yahoos clamber into the Turtle Bus and get on down
the road to their next stop. Responsibility and dependability saves lives
and keeps our roads safer.
Al claims his favorite rides are Bachelorette parties because the ladies
are all dressed up and ready to have a great time! Big smiles and good
times are a Tybee tradition!
Tybee Turtle Transit runs seven (7) days a week from 9am to 3:30am.
For $3 a person on Tybee, that’s a great deal! The Turtle also runs off
island, but call (361) 887-8537 for pricing on where you want to go off
island. Be safe and never drive when you’ve been drinking. A DUI is not
worth it.
