The Chiselers Market
For 55 years, the Chiselers, an organization that helps preserve the former Tampa Bay Hotel, has been raising funds at its
annual Chiselers Market at the site of the hotel, which is now Plant Hall at the University of Tampa. The group was formed in
1959, and derives its name from the time when members got together to chisel old mortar from imported tiles that had been
salvaged from the hotel’s original fireplaces. Over the years, the Chiselers’ thrift sales and preview parties have raised almost
$8 million for the restoration of Plant Hall. This year’s preview party chair was Orie Byars. The evening benefit’s honorary chairs
were Dr. Linda McClintock Greco and her husband Dick Greco, Tampa’s former mayor. Sandy Harris chaired the one-day market
with the help of co-chairs Suzanne Kirkconnell, Connie Urso and Al Van Voris.
Dick Dunscomb and his wife Jackie Walker,
who helped with publicity for the Chiselers
Market, enjoyed this successful fundraiser.
