Living on Tybee Island has its shortcomings (not). We don’t have to fit
everything into a week or two. We just do beach life every day. But for those
of you that have chosen Tybee as your vacation destination this year, we
know that you are much more limited in your time here.
Of course we realize the beach is most likely what drew you here, but after
spending the day at the beach with your family, you may be wondering what
else Tybee has to offer. Well fear not dear readers, we have your back!
We have compiled a list of must-dos for you while you are here. Please take
the time to check out just some of our island’s fun and entertaining things to
do. We all have our own bucket list in Life, but while you’re here on Tybee,
take the time to enjoy our bucket list:
1. The Lighthouse. Yep. All 178 steps of it. But it is totally worth the
climb when you reach the top and get to check out that view!!! There is a
fascinating history behind this beautiful lighthouse and it still houses all of its
original buildings, which makes it one of only a handful of functioning Light
Stations left in the U.S. Located at 30 Meddin Dr. (closed Tuesdays).
2. The Marine Science Center. Good times for any age! The Science
Center showcases Coastal Georgia’s natural resources and features a
variety of live sea life and interesting exhibits. The helpful staff are bursting

with knowledge and love to share with all! Don’t miss their interactive touch
tank! Located at 1509 Strand Ave.
3. Captain Mike’s Dolphin Tours. The entire family is going to love love
this boat trip! Seeing dolphins in their natural habitat is a memory you
will cherish forever. The guides are knowledgeable and you and the entire
family are guaranteed to see a dolphin. Located at 1 Old US Hwy 80. Call for
reservations @ 912-786-5848.
4. Call Wen McNally for a professional photography shoot at the beach
with you and yours. Those memories are going to last forever (540-288-
4970). If you are feeling frisky, call RiverRat Productions. Billy Harrell can
get your family in a drone shot off the pier or actually anywhere. Make your
friends jealous with drone video of your vacation! Super cool! (912-414-
8414)
5. Rent a kayak from A-J’s. There is nothing like being at peace and as
one with the water. No hauling or walking or anything. Go to A-J’s, rent the
kayak, put your butt in it and paddle off. The Back River offers scenic views
of Tybee and the surrounding marshlands. We can’t promise anything, but
I’ve never gone kayaking without a dolphin escort, a sea turtle sighting, a
manatee surfacing, wily otters playing, or all four! 1315 Chatham Ave. (912-
786-9533).
