detoxification, so organs can do their job more efficiently.
Our liver is responsible for crucial functions like digesting your food, storing
energy, plus removing toxins from your body (many ancient populations,
including the Chinese, considered the liver to be the most important organ
— hence the word “live” in its name). The liver protects our body from toxins
that we put in our body, either deliberately or unintentionally, through food we
eat or drink. As one of the hardest-working organs in the body, the liver works
tirelessly to detoxify our blood, to produce the bile needed to digest fat, to break
down hormones, and to store essential vitamins and minerals.
Adding foods like Bitter Veggies (radicchio, arugula, Bitter greens), Cruciferous
veggies (broccoli, kale, watercress, cabbage), berries and sour citrus, these
foods are detox superstars! I also cannot stress enough the importance of
water, and a simple and easy way to insure intake is to add some herbal tea
in your day (my favorite for flavor is Yogi Detox). I make it by the gallon, with
honey for convenience and keep cold. Herbs like Milk Thistle, dandelion, ginger,
are liver movers and protectors. By infusing water with herbs, grapefruit, limes,
and lemons, you’ve got yourself a delicious way to get your water intake up to
get your liver flushed. The length of a cleanse can last anywhere from a day
to a full month, depending on personal preference and how limited the diet is.
Each individual’s dietary needs and restrictions are unique to the individual. You
are ultimately responsible for all decisions pertaining to your health.
Wishing you a Healthy Liver.

For the Love of Liver
By Melonie DePalma
For the love of your liver, its time do a spring clean!
Tybee Folks, the beautiful weather is upon us. Finally coming out of hibernation
from the longest winter I’ve experienced here, and with the minimum clothing
season upon us, looking and feeling great to enjoy what our beautiful Island
has to offer is top of my list.
Being a certified Holistic Health Coach, specializing in educating and supporting
clients to meet goals in all areas of life, I’m going to share with you an easy way
to clean up your liver. A person’s health and well-being depend on how well
their body removes and purges toxins. When our liver isn’t functioning properly,
your body is likely not absorbing, storing, or utilizing all the nutrients from
our food, which can result in bloating, constipation, low energy, and stubborn
weight loss.
With exposure to environmental toxins, alcohol, toxic body care products and
processed foods, most people are in desperate need of a serious detox! A liver
cleanse is a great way to do this.
To not scare you away from the detox word, the three typical goals of a detox
are as follows:
lunches around town too... Country Fried Steak Thursday, Chicken Fried
Chicken Monday, and The Carnivore slice will ideally need to wait till after you
give your liver a rest.
digestion and more on detoxification.
