Middle Child, can
you imagine why?
Stavinga began experimenting with
alcohol and ink less than three years ago,
yet her art has found its way into many
private collections around the world.
She has earned the attention of the Dunedin
Fine Art Center and the Hallmark Home
and Family talk show with her process
of alcohol and ink that allows for a very
fluid form of expression, both literally
and figuratively. Although this medium
normally results in abstract styles of work,
Stavinga has mastered the technique to
such a degree as to be able to produce
images that vary from wildlife to florals.
“I love the challenge of creating an
image out of abstract,” she said. “It feels as
though I am dancing, as I add and subtract
ink to create the forms on paper.”
She teaches alcohol and ink workshops
in her home studio and at camps for
students of Banyan Odyssey, a local
nonprofit that serves the needs of handicapable
adults. She began teaching at
the Dunedin Fine Art Center in January.
Her work has been shown at the Stirling
Art Studios and Gallery, the Junior League
of Clearwater-Dunedin Art Harvest Art
Show, the DFAC Glad Tidings Exhibition,
the DFAC Student, Member, Faculty Show
and the Studios of Cocoa Beach. 9
