Known as “The White Queen of the Gulf,” the Belleview Hotel resort was built
in 1897 in Belleair by railroad magnate Henry Plant. It is a historical property that
was renovated in the 1990s at a cost of $14 million by new owners who added a
controversial modern entrance and lobby to this Victorian grande dame they re-named
the Belleview Mido. Today, JMC Communities has repositioned and is restoring the
hotel’s original rooms and main lobby to reopen as the Belleview Inn, the centerpiece
of its Belleview Place development of mid-rise residences and carriage homes.
