TYBEE BEACHCOMBER | JULY 2018 17
Jesse Logan Palmer
January 27, 1982 – June 19, 2017
In Memoriam
When someone dies so unexpectedly, it just rips the heart out of
family and friends. One year later and we are now getting to the point
where we can smile when we talk about Jesse. Smile and remember
the really good times and what a great guy he was! For those that didn’t
know Jesse, let me fill you in. Born and bred on Tybee, he ran with the
Tybee kids back in the day and his house had the cool parents. You
know, the parents with the ½ pipes, trampoline and skate ramps out
front of their house, the ones with the cool cars and the mom and dad
that were just those awesome people.
Jesse ran with the all the Tybee kids and they all recall and miss
him like he just walked through the room yesterday, from the Harmon
Brothers to Kurt Roseberry, Phillip Hoang, the Jackson Twins to the
Bragg Brothers. Jesse was a life force to be reckoned with. Hugely
down for any and all adventures, Jesse would rip your lazy ass off the
couch to get you out fishing and then cook the catch like a world class
chef. He was always inspired to get his friends into other fun and always
always had the cutest girls. That must have had something to do with
Jesse and his brother Josh being called “Legendary Surfers” by all who
saw them together and separate (which was rare that one was seen
without the other) in both surfing and skateboarding.
Jesse would literally give you the shirt off his back. He loved his
doggies, Frosty, Zeus, and Lil Bit. Frosty, the biggest Pitbull you would
ever meet, was really sweet-natured and looked like the Hound of the
Baskervilles charging ahead, pulling Jesse 90 mph down the streets of
Tybee on his skateboard. He and Frosty were both Tybee characters!
Growing up on Tybee, one of Jesse’s many passions was cooking
and he was a dab of this, dab of that kind of chef. No recipes here, just
natural know how. He worked at most all of the restaurants on Tybee
and he learned from these greats to make a meal that was just perfect.
Jesse was a good man. Any friend will attest to that. It is so unfortunate
that he was taken from us before his time. Isn’t that just the way, though
- the good ones go quick. It makes you think about our hours left on this
land. If not, it should. Hug your family and friends. Say I love you often
and mean it! Life isn’t guaranteed and none of us make it out alive. Live
huge! Like Jesse did.
