With all of the opportunities of places to stay out there, it really is
difficult to make a decision on what is going to work best for you and
your family as you take the vacation of your dreams here on our little
piece of paradise. Numerous vacation rentals offer a variety of things to
reel you in. Keeping that in mind, I had an opportunity to sit down with
Clay Brewer, owner and hands on operator of Stay Tybee Vacation
Rentals and what a fresh perspective he gave on what his company is
all about!
Born and raised in Augusta, Clay moved to Tybee with his parents,
Charlie and Sandy Brewer in the late 90’s. Charlie worked for Georgia
Power and was also a Tybee City Councilman. Sandy was a Tybee
paramedic and that is where it all began. Someone asked Sandy about
managing their rental property and off they went!
As Sandy and Charlie built their rental management company, Clay
earned his degree in Business Administration and Marketing and was
playing professional golf. When Mom called for help, Clay decided it was
time to retire from golf and move to Tybee full time. It made sense. The
whole idea fit his personality of helping people and he knew what to do

to promote his family’s idea of not being the biggest, but simply the best:

people that live here.
Now 20ish years later, Stay Tybee Vacation Rentals proudly boasts
21 properties here on Tybee. From condos, cottages, and full houses,
Stay Tybee provides quality vacations for families, corporate groups,
wedding parties, and others. Spread throughout the island, you will find
the biggest sleeps 16 and the smallest sleeps four. Some homes have
pools, some have ocean front access, and all are completely up-to-date
with Wi Fi, full size kitchens with modern appliances, and all have any
amenity you could wish for. The 24-hour service is the icing on the cake.
Clay says, “Tybee is not Myrtle Beach (thank God) and we do not want it
to be. All of our renters agree and go through an extreme vetting process.
Mine and my family name is this business. We are going to do right by
Tybee and our renters.” What a reassuring statement what with all of
the latest uprising of STVR’s arriving in droves all over the Low Country
and not all of them with the same courtesies in mind. Most of the newly
arrived Airbnb’s, VRBO’s, STVR’s and anything new that has cropped up in
the last few years have little to no accountability. When you rent with Stay
Tybee, you get Clay’s personal cell number. Wow!! How many owners do
that??
Stay Tybee is always looking for new homeowners to join the family
and that is what it is: A family. Beginning with Charlie and Sandy, now
run by Clay, his wife of 20 years, Kelly, and their four great kids, Chandler,
Logan, Fisher and Riley, the Brewer’s believe in family, Tybee and its
residents are one of their own. It’s nice to know that Southern Gracious
still exists and family is still important to many.
