See a police dog in action and check out some of the gear
the SWAT team uses at the Clearwater Police Department’s
National Night Out Against Crime from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct.
2 at the Super Target parking lot at Clearwater Mall. Police
K-9s, the police horses, the police boat and the SWAT team
will be among the different facets of the department on
display. Young and old alike can sit inside a police cruiser,
climb on the police boat or take a peek inside a fire truck. A

Water Maintenance
Program Resumes
The city of Clearwater and Pinellas County will conduct
routine maintenance on the water system from Oct. 1 to
Oct. 26. The method of water treatment will be temporarily
changed from chloramines to chlorine disinfection in order
to optimize water quality. The first segment was in May and
June. Some residents may notice a slight difference in the
taste or odor of their drinking water. The water is perfectly
safe to drink. Call Clearwater Public Utilities at 562-4960
with questions.
K-9 Buck Has Called It a Career
One of the Clearwater Police Department’s five four-legged
crime fighters retired recently after six years of catching bad
guys. An informal retirement ceremony was held for Buck,
a German shepherd whose handler was police officer Doug
Ambrose. Buck was responsible for dozens of arrests during
his career, and he also conducted sweeps of areas such as
Spectrum Field and Coachman Park before large public
events. In retirement, Buck will continue to live with Officer
Ambrose as he has for the last six years.
