items that change continuously.
At the intersection of Main Street
and Highland Avenue is Pisces
Sushi and Global Bistro, which
draws diners from throughout
the Tampa Bay area to indulge
themselves in the masterpieces
created by the restaurant’s awardwinning
Chef James. Back on
Main Street, be sure to stop in Hot
Dogs on Main to get a handmade
milkshake and a hot dog prepared
with inventive homemade
toppings that make this tiny shop
a favorite for those who appreciate
a “tube steak.” Another Dunedin
original virtually next door to
this is Kookie Krums, where you
can get brownies, cupcakes and
delicious, freshly baked cookies.
Sometimes in Dunedin, you have to leave Main Street to
find special spots such as the Clay and Paper Gallery of Art,
located along the trail beyond Café Alfresco. The artwork there
is primarily from local artists and is quite affordable, particularly
for the quality of work. Likewise, the Iberian Import Co. at
966 Douglas Ave. is the place to find
beautiful handcrafted items from
Portugal, such as cork handbags,
cork jewelry, hand-painted pottery,
olive oils and sauces and spices from
the Iberian Peninsula. Across the
street is Carvor’s Fish House next
to Jensen Brothers Seafood, which
serves delicacies from the sea, such
as frog legs, alligator and Key West
pink shrimp. Of course, you can also
purchase items to takeout at Carvor’s
or select fresh seafood at Jensen
Brothers Seafood. Not far away is
another of our favorite out-of-theway
places, The Honu Restaurant
at 516 Grant St. behind the Dunedin
City Hall. Their Hawaiian-style
offerings are delicious and can be
enjoyed inside or outside at this charming spot of Hawaiianinfused
dining.
If you head south on Douglas Avenue, you will come to the
Dunedin Stadium where the Toronto Blue Jays have spring
training, the Dunedin Public Library and Marguerite’s Café. Open
for breakfast and lunch, this café creates weekly specials that are
