The gigantic
168-inch-by-48-
inch oil, You Can
Call Me Anything
You Want, is on the
wall in Veronica’s
Restaurant in
Sarasota. It was
inspired by Baroque
paintings at the
Ringling Museum
of Art in Sarasota,
where the artist
worked for a decade.
Arnegger’s female subjects, often women in a wide
variety of situations and stature, honor the women in
his life – his grandmother, mother, wife and daughter.
He offers no answers, but rather asks questions about
the world around him. Viewers may even see the
images he creates as reflections of themselves.
A graduate of the school that is now the Ringling
College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Arnegger has
devoted his life to art in many ways. He has served as
a curator, art courier, preparator, art handler, exhibit
designer and artist. He works on his own terms in his
own way, always in thought and sometimes to explore
the road less traveled. He incorporates the light and
feeling of the Tampa Bay area into his work, while
creating images that are deeply moving, but which
may require a second look to discover what he has
hidden within them. Arnegger’s work can require you
to adjust your own orientation, as you delve into the
ambiguous thoughts that haunt it. 9
