THE NEW
ST. PETERSBURG PIER
Tampa Bay’s Newest Attraction
The Bending Arc sculpture by Janet Echelman comes alive with color after
dark to mesmerize you with its wind-propelled movements.
Ever since Frederick Law Olmsted created
Central Park for New York City, public
spaces in cities across the United States
have served to give visitors and residents
a place to play, relax and unwind. In downtown
Tampa, Curtis Hixon Park is bound on one side
by the children’s and art museums and on another
by the Riverwalk on the Hillsborough River, plus
the University of Tampa on the opposite bank
provides a charming backdrop. On Clearwater
Beach, Pier 60 gathers people year-round with its
activities and dazzling sunsets, while downtown
Clearwater’s Coachman Park attracts a hundred
thousand people each year to its four-day
Clearwater Jazz Holiday and other events.
A mural at the rear of the St. Petersburg History Museum is
one of the delightful pieces of art in the pier district.
