TYBEE BEACHCOMBER | JAN 2021 27
By Alaina Loughridge
If it is so rare that I go sit at a bar and the bartender is delighted to see me.
Like a Bar Rescue Jon Taffer situation, where he’s screaming at the bartender
to smile and shake that shaker like you’re happy to be there and happy to see
your customers. Well, from my own personal experience as a bartender, I’m not
a happy shaker. However, I have good news for y’all, Cody Eichelberger is a
great shaker and genuinely delighted to see you! Without Jon Taffer screaming.
What?? Yep. Sea Wolf for this dude. Let’s chat:
This guy is just flat out cool! Total surfer dude with a great smile and a great
attitude about being alive and just being here. Love that! I got to sit down
with Cody at a safe social distance situation over a cocktail and here is what
happened:
Cody was born and bred Savannah. He is a self-confessed food industry worker
since high school, and happily so. After graduating from Memorial High, Cody
went to college at Armstrong for technical engineering. He moved to Atlanta to
complete his degree at the School of Audio Engineering in Atlanta and while
he was there, ended up with a bartending gig at Cheeseburger in Paradise.
Yep. Jimmy Buffett’s CiP! How cool is that?? Three years later he transferred
to Woodbridge, Virginia as a manager and continued his Jimmy Buffet scene.
Those drinks are not easy y’all. There is a lot of time and effort to keep those
coming and if you have the smile to get through it, you’re golden!
In 2015, Cody missed the family and the beach and moved back home and no
one can blame that idea! He went here and there for a couple years, including
The Pink House (fine dining experience), and then Grey, as well as Sushi Zen
and Atlantic. The dude has experience! When he hooked up with Sea Wolf’s
sister bar/restaurant, Lone Wolf, he got transferred to Tybee and the rest is
history!
The Questions of Life:
Tybee Life: Forever. Well, except for a few minutes.
Passion: Swimming, surfing, kayaking, water, water, water. Being in it,
on it, by it.
Grow Up: I’m doing what I want right now!
Super Power He Has: How to handle certain attitudes and customers and
to make them happy and comfortable. Just be super approachable.
Super Power He Wishes He Had: A Third Arm. Best bartender ever!
Spirit Animal: A Jellyfish! Seems soft and easy, but will most definitely
leave a mark! A brainless invertebrate that will sting the shit out of you.
Cody is just fun and so personable! His go to drink is going to make you fun and
personable as well: The Black Manhattan. A classic cocktail for sure! A warm,
velvety nightcap of rye whiskey, Italian liqueur, vermouth, and other secret stuff
that I have been sworn to secrecy about.
Cody works at Sea Wolf Friday and Saturday night, but that doesn’t mean you
can’t go there when he isn’t there. Good food and good times! Definitely stop
by and say ‘Hey.’ Get your cocktail face on! Sea Wolf is located right next to the
Tybee Post Office on 106 South Campbell Avenue.
