Trey Benton III joined the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys
Association) in 2012, competing in Bull Riding. For the 2011
season, he qualified for the Texas Circuit Finals (ultimately
placing fifth), the All-American Finals (placing tenth) and won
the Abilene, Kansas PRCA Rodeo. Trey had three 90 point and
over rides for 2011, placing second in seven rodeos. He also
competed in the CPRA, CBR and PBR (Professional Bull Rider).
Trey’s rodeo career began at the early age of five when he
started riding sheep and calves. At the age of nine he started
riding bareback horses and roping breakaway, shortly after he
began roping tie down. When he turned twelve he began team
roping, starting with heeling and then learning to head. Trey
made the Junior High School National Finals, in 2005, where he
was the Reserve Champion Bull Rider. He also made the High
School National Finals, in 2009, in the Bull Riding and 2010, in
the Calf Roping.
Trey was born in 1992, the oldest of three children. Trey’s sister,
Haley, and brother, Connor, are also involved in rodeo. Trey
was raised on a ranch in South Texas and has worked on various
ranches riding and training horses and working cows as well as
helping tend to the family ranch.
Trey is currently attending Sam Houston State University
where he has a grade point average of 3.0. He completed his
Associates Degree at Wharton County Jr. College, over the last
two years, where he competed in college rodeo.
