Wyoming Rodeo Association: A Place of
Community
By Sarah Herold
WRA Secretary
I
n the early 1970’s the
Wyoming Rodeo
Association (WRA)
was in full swing: they
offered rodeos to cowgirls and
cowboys from the Tetons all the
way to the flatlands of Eastern
Wyoming. The WRA was a place
for those looking to compete and
to have a good time. Through
the WRA contestants and fans
found friendship, made
unforgettable memories and a
home. Not much has changed
from the 70’s rodeo way of life
where cowboys and cowgirls
pile into the back of old pickup
trucks, head to town for the
rodeo and a night out. Nearly
sixty years later, driving
down the road during
the summer months
one can still catch a
glance of an overloaded
pickup truck and trailer
trucking down the
road to the next rodeo.
It doesn’t matter if one
is in West Texas,
Northern
Montana, or
Eastern
