“The home on Wheeler Road did in fact score a minus 27 HERS,” Jenkins said.
“It’s offi cially a Net-Zero home, expected to produce 27 percent more energy
annually than it consumes.”
Kirby Outerbridge owns

Dave Benner, owner of Safety
Harbor Builders, has constructed more
than 400 homes in Boca Grande since 1987.
“The net-zero energy concept requires solar
energy to be converted and stored,” Benner said.
“Along with other energy effi cient products, owners
can reduce their carbon footprints.”
Benner said the new home on Wheeler Road has
a roofl ine that is perfectly designed to obtain
maximum solar power.
“The effi ciency is really based upon what the
owner is willing to give up in aesthetics,” he said.
“We’re excited about this home and future ones as
the technology and products continue to improve.”
