ZIP system wall and roof sheathing is another
product builders commonly use in the area. This
specially -engineered tape is comprised of acrylic
adhesive and has a water-resistive barrier. The
two-step installation process makes for a fast
installation and a permanent protective seal,
creating a steadfast water and air barrier.
Bobby Miller, owner of Grande
Aire Services, said the way builders are
achieving energy-smart goals is not only through
better building practices, but through choosing the
right building materials.
“One crucial way in achieving this is in window
selection,” Miller said.
“Window construction
has improved over the
years, from the material
used to the gasses used
in between the panes.”
Miller said if you are
considering replacing
your windows with
highly-effi cient
windows, or replacing

your existing insulation
with spray foam
insulation, the decision to perform this upgrade
may reduce the overall HVAC cooling requirements
for your home … providing your current
HVAC system is not too large.
“An over-sized HVAC unit in our region is not
benefi cial,” Miller said.
Energy effi cient HVAC units not only provide
cooling and heating, they also work to dehumidify
a home as well.
“When built to the plan specifi cations, energy
smart homes routinely consume half the energy of
a typical new home,” Jenkins said. “In fact, with the
addition of solar, many of our designs have been
built as true ‘Net-Zero Energy Homes’ producing
all of the energy the owners need.”
