Harvesting Hope
For nine years, Eckerd Connects, formerly known as Eckerd Kids, celebrated the lasting legacy of Jack and Ruth Eckerd with
the Jingle Jangle Jam. This 10th year, the fundraiser’s name was changed to Harvesting Hope to celebrate the season of thanks.
The proceeds benefit the more than 25,000 abused, neglected and at-risk children served annually by the charity, whose mission
is to provide and share solutions that promote the well-being and success of children and families in need of a second chance.
Bay News 9 Senior Anchor Al Ruechel was master of ceremonies for the evening that was held at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater.
Saturday Night Fever Screening
To help raise funds for the annual Sunscreen Film Festival, the Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization hosted a buffet
dinner and screening of the 1977 hit movie Saturday Night Fever at the historic Fort Harrison in Clearwater. After the showing of
the movie, its star John Travolta answered audience members’ questions about himself and the making of the film. Guests were
welcomed by the festival director Ryan Tarrant and Lisa Mansell, a member of the film festival’s board.
