As many of you may have heard, George Walker, our commander,
suffered a stroke a few weeks ago. He is steadily improving but will still be

The 69th annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday, March 31st,
beginning at 12:30 for ages infant to 10 years old, with prizes being
awarded in each category. The Ladies Auxiliary will begin selling tickets
for their spring wagon raffle the last week of February with the drawing to
be held at the Easter Egg Hunt.
March 1st - Chicken Dinner - $10.00 per plate.
March 8th – Steak Dinner with baked potato, salad, and roll - $17.00
per dinner. We now have a larger grill – wait time has been reduced
dramatically! Reservations requested before March 3rd - sign up with
bartender.
March 10th – Corn Beef and Cabbage after the Tybee Heritage Parade
- $12.00 per plate.
March 15th – Sons of the Legion Shrimp Dinner - $12.00 per plate.
Bingo starts every Friday at 8pm sharp. Cards go on sale at 7pm and
the public is welcome. Total prizes could reach $1,500 with the jackpot
game at $500. The concession stand always has our famous Legion
burger, along with hot dogs, fries, and desserts.
We continue to look for new members. If you’re interested in the
Legion, Ladies Auxiliary, or Sons of the Legion, call the Post at 786-5356
for information. The Legion and Auxiliary meet on the second Monday of
the month with social hour and dinner starting at 6pm and the meeting at
7pm. The Sons of the Legion meet on the third Monday at 7pm.
The Legion hall is available for rent for weddings, birthdays, class
reunions, meetings, or any other special event. You do not need to be a
member to rent the hall.
March 2, 1943 - During World War II in the Pacific, a Japanese convoy
was attacked by 137 American bombers as the Battle of Bismarck Sea
began. The convoy included eight destroyers and eight transports carrying
7,000 Japanese soldiers heading toward New Guinea. Four destroyers
and all eight transports were sunk, resulting in 3,500 Japanese drowned,
ending Japanese efforts to send reinforcements to New Guinea.

March 4, 1933 - Newly elected President Franklin D. Roosevelt took
office and delivered his first inaugural address attempting to restore
public confidence during the Great Depression, stating, “Let me assert my
firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself...” His cabinet
appointments included the first woman to a Cabinet post, Secretary of
Labor, Frances Perkins.

March 15th – The American Legion organization will be celebrating its
99th birthday.
March 29 - Vietnam Veteran’s Day
Birthday - Revolutionary war hero Casimir Pulaski (1747-1779) was
born in Poland. Before aiding in the American Revolution, he was a military
leader in Poland’s struggle against Imperial Russia. He joined the Americans
in 1777 and fought alongside General Washington at Brandywine, then
served at Germantown and Valley Forge. He was mortally wounded during
a heroic charge in the Siege of Savannah, Georgia.
