TYBEE
SUNRISE
By Jim Waller
When someone handed me this book, I assumed, given the title, that I
should review it. It’s a short book, less than 200 pages, but considering
I had just finished Stephen King’s new 700 page book, I thought this
would be a nice break. Frankly, I didn’t expect much since I couldn’t find
anything online about the book or the author, but I was in for a pleasant
surprise.
Matt Ryan, an attorney from New York, has just gone through a
nasty divorce and has decided to leave the big city in pursuit of an old
girlfriend who he dumped 10 years ago to marry his now ex-wife. He
knows that “Carolyn” moved South and he’s determined to try and find
her and hopefully rekindle the relationship. Matt has bought a condo
over-looking the ocean on Tybee’s south end and rented office space
on Butler Avenue to open a law office. On his way to his new home
on Tybee he becomes acquainted with John and Robert, two homeless
men who he feels a connection with.
After finally arriving on Tybee, as the new eligible bachelor in town,
he is immediately introduced to Melody, a nurse who lives on the island.
He’s very attracted to Melody, but he can’t get too close until he finds
Carolyn, his first love, and finds out if he can put that relationship back
together. He also meets Florence, his first client on Tybee, who is a very
outspoken old woman who lives within walking distance of his office.
All of these people that he’s met will become part of Matt’s new family
in his life on Tybee.
Everything is fine until he finds Carolyn. What he ever saw in this
cold-hearted bitch is beyond me, but Matt is too blind to see her faults.
What a royal dumbass he is! Is he going to pursue this insane thing with
Carolyn and miss out on a great relationship with Melody?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book in spite of the fact that I wanted to
slap Matt upside the head! It also has a wealth of information about
Tybee and Savannah, many things that I didn’t know. The author never
mentions any business or place by name, but you can picture just what
and where he’s talking about. I give this book 3 roses. It’s not a literary
masterpiece, but it is a very enjoyable read and I think you would really
like it.
So, until next time, read a book. If it’s a good read, pass it on!
