The above paragraph highlights aspects of the quality of life, plethora of opportunities,
and the heritage on Tybee in just a few words. As a Main Street America™
Community, the City is committed to continually improving these aspects. With
assistance from the council-appointed
Board of Directors, the Development
Authority/Main Street Program works
with partnering organizations to balance
aspects that directly relate to economic
development and historic preservation.
These partners came together for the
Annual Planning Retreat on February
13 for a work session where they
reviewed the previous year’s accomplishments and provided input for this year’s
goals. Program directors then met and mapped out the top three projects that fall
within its mission and vision that can be realistically accomplished. Details will
be presented soon and worked on with the city and citizens, merchants, and reps
from community organizations. Thank you to everyone, this continues to positively
support a year-round strong economy and works to preserve Tybee’s authenticity.
Feel free to contact members of the Development Authority/Main Street Board of
Directors (pictured below) or me with suggestions and/or concerns re: organizing
community activities, economic development and or preservation/aesthetics of
our city. To keep up to date with city approved special events, merchant news,
business matters, and preservation spotlights, sign up for the monthly Main Street
Talk e-newsletter @ www.tybeeislandmainstreet.com. Plus, we invite you to like
the Tybee Island Main Street FB page.
Take time to enjoy “Tybee time” and remember why those of us who live and
work here are “lucky enough” and those who visit always plan to return.
See you around town! Chantel
TYBEE BEACHCOMBER | MARCH 2018 35
Main Street Musings
Chantel Morton, Program Staff Director
Time on Tybee is fabulous year-round, but March is a particularly splendid time
to live, work, and play on the island. With “2017 challenges” finally behind us and
spring in the air, we’re looking forward the positive momentum that’s already
underway for 2018! This month marks Tybee’s welcome to spring – officially when
we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day one week early with the Irish Heritage Celebration
Parade on March 10! Then, spring breakers start arriving once again, which gives
us the opp to meet new visitors and welcome back returning guests. Daylight
Savings Time is March 11 and we’ll get even more sunlit time to shop, dine, and do
while experiencing walking, bicycling, and taking in the unique Tybee architecture.
So, head on out to the beach at dawn or dusk to catch a breathtaking sunset/
sunrise or grab a fabulous bite to eat from IGA or one of our fab restaurants for an
impromptu picnic in the park. There are so many ways to enjoy springtime on the
island by shopping locally, visiting with neighbors, and experiencing culture and
nature right here in your hometown!
