Chapter 8 – Brown-Chicken-Brown-Cow
Day 4
30 TYBEE BEACHCOMBER | MARCH 2018
“Technically,” Tony begins, “That food is everyone’s since it was a
collaborative effort that got the food over here. Not to mention, Howard gave
his life in the process.”
“Damn it, Brian!” Carrie pipes up. “Why do you have to make everything
so difficult?”
“Because if I didn’t we wouldn’t have any food at our camp right now.”
“No!” Carrie shouts back at him. “There wouldn’t be any food at our
camp if it weren’t for me, Tony, Jay, Rudy, and HOWARD, you selfish twat.”
“Oh, here we go! Time to jump on Brian!” Brian begins before starting to
mumble and storm off toward his camp. “It was my idea to bring the food
from the boat over to our camp.”
“Only because you were being such a JERK ABOUT IT!” Carrie shouts
after him.
Rudy looks around at Carrie and Jay and says, “Why don’t we head over
to your camp and calm his ass down before he does something stupid.”
“We’ll see you guys later,” Nate says. “Tony, Becky, and I need to talk
about some stuff before dinner.”
As they head back to their camp Tony begins making some coffee and
Nate says, “We need a plan… I think the insanity of our situation is just
starting to sink in. I mean, who is left out there? Where are the cops? Where
is the Army? WHERE IS EVERYONE?!”
Tony puts the coffee down and looks at Nate with a concerned expression
on his face. “Deep breaths, man. Don’t lose control of your rational
thinking.”
“Rational thinking?!” Becky says. “None of this is rational.”
“I know, I know,” Tony answers. “But if we lose our heads, we could die.”
“Or worse,” Nate says while looking out toward Tybee Island. “We could
turn into one of those THINGS.”
“Not if we keep our heads,” Tony says calmly. “Let’s break things down.
We know the situation on Tybee, but we don’t know what’s happening on
the mainland. What do you guys think about heading to Wilmington Island
tomorrow? It’s only about a fifteen-minute ride and we need to get fuel for
the boat anyway.”
Jay and Carrie successfully retrieve Rudy and Tony from Inlet on Tybee
Island and make their way back to Little Tybee. After the group catches up
on the events of the previous day, Jay speaks up and says, “We have all the
supplies from the Wind Rose over at our camp.”
“Great. I guess you guys can cook dinner tonight,” Tony replies.
“I’ll help them,” Rudy offers. “So I can make sure we don’t eat any of the
chili or beans.”
“Excellent idea!” Tony exclaims.
“Oh, I see,” Brian chimes in. “We have food at our camp and now you
guys want to eat our food and not the food you’re hoarding over here.”
