L’lle au trésor
(Treasure
Island) is a
1942 oil on
canvas by
René Magritte
(1898-1967)
that is part of
the “Magritte
and Dalí”
exhibit on
display at the
Salvador Dalí
Museum in
St. Petersburg
through
May 19th.
Surrealists Rene Magritte and Salvador Dalí opened minds to an alternative view
of the world by constantly challenging reality. In the exhibit “Magritte & Dalí,”
more than 30 of their works are on display thru May 19th at the Salvador Dalí
Museum in St. Petersburg. This is a first-of-its-kind special exhibition that shows
the similar paths that these two friends followed as they developed their ideas
and art. In addition to the exemplary pieces, visitors are invited to contemplate
and photograph an interactive “cloud room” and capture images of themselves
intermingled with surrealist icons and symbols. Following its time in St. Petersburg,
the exhibit will move to the Magritte Museum in Brussels, Belgium.
Artwork such as this, created by master
pastelist Brooke Allison for the benefit’s
invitation, will be auctioned at the Dunedin
Fine Art Center’s Garden Party.
