Schlumberger began his career designing
buttons and costume jewelry for couturier
Elsa Schiaparelli in the 1930s. After serving in
World War II, when he found himself working
as a jewelry designer in New York City, his
work caught the eye of wealthy women
such as philanthropist Paul Mellon’s wife
Bunny. Schlumberger became such a success
that Tiffany & Co. convinced him to set up
his design salon at Tiffany’s Fifth Avenue
headquarters, where he became known for his
lively experimental designs that played with
color, movement and shape.
Schlumberger’s work as a
designer for Tiffany & Co. is
breathtakingly beautiful.
