CUT IT OUT
Each of these twelve Reverse
Cutwork Block Pillow designs has been
specially digitized to be fully compatible
with embroidery machine cutwork needles.
The first steps of each design will be
completed like normal, but once it is time
to cut out the fabric, you will switch to a
cutwork needle and let it do all the work!
Cutwork needles are different from
standard needles since they do not use
any thread. Instead of an eye, the bottom of
a cutwork needle is a small cutting blade,
almost like a tiny chisel. There are several
brands that manufacture cutwork needles,
each of which have different cutting angles
and also color designations.
The largest difference is the same as with
regular machine needles, between flat
and rounded-backs. Flat backed cutwork
needles are created for single needle
home embroidery machines, and rounded
back cutwork needles are for multi-needle
machines. Be sure to use the correct
needle for your machine type to ensure the
best result.
For our Reverse Cutwork Block Pillow
project, we used Inspira brand cutwork
needles since they are universal and
compatible with all home machine brands.
We specifically selected the red #1 needle
for its cutting angle, and digitized the
cutwork with a stitch length to easily cut
with this needle. Follow the tutorial steps
carefully to see when you should use the
cutwork needle.
If you do not wish to use a cutwork
needle, then you can simply continue
through the design as normal, but you will
need to cut away the fabric using
appliqué scissors.
