“There have been so many memorable moments
in the County Clash. But for me, the one that
stands above them all is when Pisgah’s Matthew
Inman took a field goal attempt off the foot of
the Tuscola placekicker’s foot and returned it
for a touchdown with no time on the clock to
send the Black Bears into halftime with the
momentum.
“It was a remarkable play. What made it worse
for those Mountaineers, he ran it back in front of
their bench. It sparked Pisgah in the second half
as the Black Bears were a completely different
team in the second half en route to another
County Clash victory.”

“My all-time favorite moment came with seconds left in a County
Clash game at C.E. Weatherby Stadium when Pisgah, who had
just scored a touchdown, lined up to kick the game-tying extra
point. We all were thinking overtime when Tuscola jumped the
snap and was flagged for offside. Everyone looked over to the
Black Bears’ bench to see if they were going for two.
“That’s exactly what happened. Pisgah was going for two and the
win. I have to admit, I thought they would get it. But some how,
some way, one Mountaineer busted through the line and stuffed
the Pisgah QB, securing the win.
That was a special celebration after the game.
“Another moment I would like to forget was when that Inman kid
blocked that field goal and returned it for a TD as the first half
expired. It devastated Tuscola. It changed the complexion of the
game in the second half.
“One more was told to me by my dad, Lynn Truitt, who passed
away recently. It was his favorite of all the games he saw in this
rivalry. Pisgah had soundly defeated Tuscola, 17-0, in a late September
regular season game in Canton. But the two schools met
in a state playoff game, also in Canton, in mid November. But this
time. the Mountaineers prevailed, 16-6.
“My dad loved telling that story.”

“I graduated from Tuscola but had five children attend Pisgah.
So, you can imagine the Pinkston Family has a lot of memories of
the County Clash and we also have a lot of fun with our friends.

“I have many strong memories from the games that I have
attended. While one of the most recent, the memory that seems
to now rise to the top for me occurred last year at Pisgah
Memorial Stadium. As part of the group that was given the duty
to make sure that the “show” and presentation of the game
were pulled off seamlessly, at least from the side of the host
school (including preparations for the super half and half and all
of pregame events). We pulled off the greatest pre-game show
because of the careful supervision of Athletic Director Casey
Kruk .
“As always, the pregame activities completely consumed the
sometimes frantic press box as we tried diligently to react to all
the items bombarding us.
