35. PUBLICATIONS
In the case of official publications, i.e., where the paper or magazine is described as "published" by the school, and/or the school
provides a faculty advisor and/or the funds for printing and distribution, the school, the student author, and the student editors
are liable and accountable for whatever is published. Accordingly, the school has a paramount right to ensure that whatever is
published observes the strictures against malicious injury, defamation, obscenity and incitement to disorder, injury or illegal acts.
Levels 1/2/3.
36. SKIPPING CLASSES
A student who is not where he/she is assigned to be at any given time is skipping class. Level 1/ Level 2.
37. RECKLESS DRIVING AND/OR SPEEDING ON SCHOOL PROPERTY PROHIBITED
Level 3/Level 4.
38. INAPPROPRIATE CLOTHINGAND PERSONALARTICLES
PROHIBITED CLOTHING, ETC.
• Any clothing warranting safety concerns, such as trench coats and loose or baggy pants or shirts as determined by the
school’s administrator
• Any clothing with holes or tears above the knee that expose skin or undergarments. Tears and holes above the knee should be
pre-manufactured with a sewn in patch that completely covers the manufactured hole. Naturally occurring holes should be patched
with like fabric. No skin or undergarment, regardless of size of tear, should be shown above the knee.
• Excessively loose or baggy pants
• Shirts that are strapless
• Shirts, blouses, tops that are not long enough to be tucked in.
• Skirts, dresses, pants, and shorts must be no less in length than four inches (equivalent to two horizontal credit card or ID cards)
above the top of the knee for grades 5 and above.
• Leggings, yoga pants, and other tight, sheer, exposing, provocative, or revealing clothing must be accompanied by a top shirt that
reaches no less mid-thigh.
• Tank Tops, Muscle Shirts, etc. worn by students in grades 5 and above
• Clothing with a message that is obscene, profane, lewd, vulgar, or that “harasses, threatens, intimidates, or demeans an
individual or group of individuals because of gender, color, race, religion, handicap, national origin, or sexual orientation, or
that advertises illegal substances such as alcohol, drugs, and/or tobacco products”
PROHIBITED PERSONAL ARTICLES
• Any article warranting safety concerns
• Any article, including makeup, jewelry, any piercings other than the ears including piercing retainers, or any other
personal adornment that disrupts the educational process as determined by the school administrator
• Bandannas
• The wearing of hats, caps, bandannas, hoods, other head gear, etc. in school buildings
• Blankets and body wraps for grades three and up unless being transported and used
for overnight trips.
Levels 1-4 apply to violations.
39. INAPPROPRIATE CLOTHING, ETC. AT THE LEARNINGACADEMYAND IN-SCHOOL
SUSPENSION
Students at the K.C.L.A. shall not wear any clothing or accessories or possess any items that are disruptive to the educational
process. Clothing, accessories, and items shall not in any way promote or advertise drugs, tobacco, or be gang-related. Clothing
shall have no sexual undertones. Students attending K.C.L.A. will receive additional information about clothing requirements
upon registration.
Students assigned to in-school suspension may be subject to the same clothing and personal articles policy as K.C.L.A. as
determined by the school’s administrator.
PROHIBITED ITEMS AT K.C.L.A.
• Backpacks
• Zip-up binders and notebooks
• Pocketbooks / purses that are larger than 8" x 8" x 2" in size
• Curling irons, hairdryers, makeup kits, nail kits, etc.
• Radios, stereos, headphones, etc.
• Cell phone, beepers, I-Pods
• Medicine of any kind without the prescribed medication form from a doctor on file.
