TRANSPORTATION DISCIPLINE PROCEDURES
FOR STUDENTS BEING TRANSPORTED TO AND FROM SCHOOL
RIDING A SCHOOL BUS IS A PRIVILEGE, NOT A RIGHT.

1. THE FOLLOWING RULES WILL APPLY
There shall be no animals, glass containers, unnecessary noise, open and persistent defiance, vandalism, hanging out of
windows (hands, arms, etc.), harassing (such as striking, shoving, kicking, annoying), eating, drinking, use of tobacco products
(smoking or spitting), fighting, profanity, obscenity, creating fire hazards (such as striking matches, smoke bombs, fireworks),
disorderly boarding and unloading procedures (such as pushing, shoving, tripping, etc.), throwing objects at, on or off the bus. All
students will be required to sit in assigned seats.
2. THE FOLLOWING RULES WILL APPLY DURING TRANSITIONING FROM BUS TO BUS:
A. Students may only ride their assigned bus during transitioning.
B. During transitioning, bus drivers are to release students from the bus only under the supervision of staff on bus
duty.
C. Students who are going to transition differently than their regular routine are required to have a permission slip signed
by their home school principal.
3. THE STUDENT WILL NOT:
A. Stand in the road while waiting for the bus;
B. Mar or deface the bus;
C. Start to school when sick;
D. Use tobacco, drugs, or alcohol on the bus;
E. Use profane or indecent language on the bus;
F. Leave the bus without the driver's consent except at home and school;
G. Walk behind the bus;
H. Approach the bus until the bus has stopped and the driver has signaled the student;
I. Board any bus while wearing a cap or hood.
4. BUS REGULATIONS
A. CONDUCT ON BUS (Board Policy 06.34)
Principal Responsible – The Principal shall oversee the deportment of his students who ride on the school bus and
who walk to and from the school.
Reporting of Violations – The bus drivers shall promptly report any violation of district policy or school rules to the
Principal.
Discharge of Pupils From Bus – The driver is in charge of his bus, and his first responsibility shall be to the safe
transportation of his passengers. In the event that one or more pupils are behaving in a threatening or violent manner or in
such a way as to endanger the safety of other pupils on the bus, as a last resort the driver is authorized to order the offending
pupils from the bus. In the event a pupil is discharged for disciplinary reasons, the driver shall make every effort to do so near
a house or open business establishment. At the first reasonable opportunity, the driver shall notify the Principal of the school
where the pupil attends or the Superintendent and the student's parent or legal guardian.
Withholding of Riding Privileges – The Principal is authorized to withhold bus-riding privileges up to a maximum of
ten (10) school days per occurrence in the case of habitual or serious conduct violations. The Principal shall notify the
parents in cases where bus-riding privileges have been withheld.
The Superintendent or his designee may withhold bus-riding privileges up to the remainder of the school year.
Restitution of Damages – The parents or guardians may be held responsible for restitution of any damages,
beyond normal usage, inflicted by their child.
Students With Disabilities – Students with disabilities who exhibit inappropriate conduct shall be managed in accordance
with their Individual Education Plan (IEP) and the legal obligations and standards adopted by The Board.
B. Any complaints by drivers, pupils, or parent not specified in the above regulations shall be reported promptly to the
principal, superintendent, or transportation director.
C. Any pupil who persists in violating any of these rules or regulations shall be reported to the principal of the school which
they attend for disciplinary action. Suspension will be automatic in the five general areas listed:
(1) Using tobacco on the bus, first offense – Riding privileges are automatically suspended for one week;
(2) Fighting with intent to harm – Follow Disciplinary Response options;
(3) Vandalism (damaging a bus, such as cutting seats, breaking windows, etc.) – Automatic suspension of bus
privileges for 3 days with restitution of damages to be made not later than the last day of the first-week period
of suspension or suspension will continue until payment has been made. Principal will notify the driver when
the student is to be allowed back on the bus.
(4) Physical abuse directed personally at the driver – Automatic suspension of bus riding privileges for 10 days
