ANATOMY OF
THE DESIGN
We created this tutorial to make your project as simple as
possible! Savanna Sunsets comes with a total of 18 main
block designs and 3 sashing block options. Each of the main
quilt blocks in this collection feature a vertical orientation,
showcasing beautiful African-inspired illustrations of popular
animals seen among the wild landscapes. Each main quilt
block will begin with a similar construction, creating the
base for the designs through a series of 7 folded fabrics.
The intricate animals will get added onto the block through
the addition of hidden appliqués, letting the embroidery

stitches illustrate the scene. Since the animal appliqués will
be finished off with a bean-stitched edge, having a pair of
curved-tip appliqué scissors (and maybe even some anti-fray
fabric treatment) will significantly help your designs remain
clean and consistent throughout the process. To create our
3-row sunset gradient, we swapped out our folded fabric
colors every 6 blocks, transitioning the shades slightly darker
for each row. The end results are sure to create a stunning
sunset scene, perfect for animal or art lovers alike!
Each block will begin with a
series of 7 fabrics to create
the base of the block. We
constructed our block with
the lightest colored fabrics at
the top and the darkest at the
bottom. The “midground” fabric
will be placed first as a standard
appliqué, while the remaining
fabrics will be added using our
folded fabric technique.
WE MAKE IT EASY FOR YOU!
