many East Asian Countries and
Canada celebrate their own
version of the Lunar New Year
around the same time. Lunar
New Year is the beginning of a
calendar year whose months are
moon cycles, based on the lunar
calendar or lunisolar calendar.
Enjoy stories, crafts and games
to celebrate this time of the year
in many different cultures.

Presentation: Alex Mahadevan
from the Poynter Institute
will give an informative and
interactive presentation about
Media Literacy. Media literacy
encompasses the practices
that allow people to access,
critically evaluate, and create
or manipulate media. Media
literacy is not restricted to
one medium. Media literacy
education is intended to
promote awareness of media
influence and create an active
stance toward both consuming

• Apr. 7: Poetry Zines: Celebrate
National Poetry Month by
creating your own Zine. We will
learn about and create some
popular forms of poetry, create a
group poem, and then with your
imagination and a ton of art
supplies, create your own unique
poetry zine. A zine is a smallcirculation

via a copy machine.

Craftivity Club: The Invention
of Hugo Cabret and Make Your
Own Zoetrope
Enter the world of Hugo Cabret,
as we read an excerpt from the
book, “The Invention of Cabret” by Brian Selznick. become an amateur filmmaker as
you create your very own Zoetrope.
The Zoetrope produces the illusion
of movement by viewing individual
images through narrow slits in a
rotating cylinder.

Mad Science: Mineral Mania
(K-2)
Students recreate the process of
rock formation and devise ways
to identify and classify rocks and
minerals. They’ll experience the thrill
of panning for gems. They can take
home the gems they find for further
