evaluations, testing and
consultations for 11 years.
• Feb. 3: Lunar New Year Stories
and Crafts: You may have heard
of the Chinese New Year, but
many East Asian Countries and
Canada celebrate their own
version of the Lunar New Year
around the same time. Lunar
New Year is the beginning of a
calendar year whose months are
moon cycles, based on the lunar
calendar or lunisolar calendar.
Enjoy stories, crafts and games
to celebrate this time of the year
in many different cultures.
• Feb. 17: Media Literacy
Presentation: Alex Mahadevan
from the Poynter Institute
will give an informative and
interactive presentation about
Media Literacy. Media literacy
encompasses the practices
that allow people to access,
critically evaluate, and create
or manipulate media. Media
literacy is not restricted to
one medium. Media literacy
education is intended to
promote awareness of media
influence and create an active
stance toward both consuming

• Apr. 7: Poetry Zines: Celebrate
National Poetry Month by
creating your own Zine. We will
learn about and create some
popular forms of poetry, create a
group poem, and then with your
imagination and a ton of art
supplies, create your own unique
poetry zine. A zine is a smallcirculation
self-published work
of original or appropriated texts
and images, usually reproduced
via a copy machine.

Art Project of the Month:
Macramé Hoop
This month join us to make a
Macramé Hoop with us using a 10-
inch hoop and Macramé yarn. This
project will be of easy to moderate
difficulty and will take about one
hour to complete. Make something
beautiful for your home or give it
away as a gift.
