Sarasota Opera Gala
The Sarasota Opera opened its 2016 Winter Opera Festival season with “An Evening on the Nile.” The annual black
tie gala dinner and dance, which was held at the Ritz Carlton in Sarasota, took its theme from Verdi’s Aida, which is
being performed under the direction of Maestro Victor DeRenzi through March 17th in the beautifully restored Sarasota
Opera House.
Maestro Victor DeRenzi, Sarasota Opera’s
talented artistic director, was thanked for
his stellar leadership by Richard Russell,
the group’s executive director. Edith Chaifetz, who was one of the Gala’s
co-chairs, and her husband David, who is the
chair of the Sarasota Opera board, were happy
to be patrons of the successful benefit.
Per-Erik Lindqvist was proud of the work
that his wife Sandra did as co-chair to make
this annual gala benefit for which they were
patrons, such a great success.
Gala patrons Don Worthington, a former
board chair, and his wife Rachael came from
Palm Harbor, but spent the night at their
new Ritz Carlton residence in Sarasota. Gina d’Angelo, board chair of the
Opera Tampa League, and her husband
Dr. Barry Levine drove from Temple Terrace
to attend the elegant Sarasota Opera benefit.
Martin Martel and his wife, Gala committee
member Bonnie Heet, who were patrons of the
benefit, came from their home in Valrico to
attend the glamorous evening.
