Russian Heritage Gala
After the exhibition opening of the “Treasures of the Czars” at the Florida International Museum in St. Petersburg sparked
interest in Russian culture, the Russian Heritage organization was formed. For 20 years, Russian Heritage has held an
Old New Year’s Gala as its major fundraising event and to help promote Russian American understanding. The Gala’s
honorary chairs, John and Margo Catsimatidis, have been sponsoring this event since its inception in honor of Margo’s
mother Tatiana Vondersaar, one of Russian Heritage’s founders. Interestingly, our St. Petersburg in Florida was founded
200 years after the Russian city by that name.
Carl Kuttler, Jr. and his wife Violetta attended
the Ball, as Carl was one of the three founders
of Russian Heritage while he was president
of St. Petersburg College.
Natalya and Michael Flaljorin enjoyed this
evening of dining and dancing that helped
raise funds for scholarships to assist students
interested in Russia.
Master Jeweler Vladimir Malkin and his wife
Galina, who operate the Russian Art Gallery
across from the Sundial in downtown
St. Petersburg, were sponsors of the Ball.
Famous bakery Chef
Irina Chernousiva created this
Faberge Imperial jewelry-inspired
cake that was enjoyed after
the Ball’s dinner at the
St. Petersburg Yacht Club.
Former Congressman Mike Bilirakis and
his wife Evelyn were at the Ball with their son,
Congressman Gus Bilirakis, who welcomed
guests to the celebration.
Julann Baker attended with her parents, former
St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker, and his wife Joyce.
Rick was named “Person of the Year” in 2004
by Russian Heritage.
