Julie Weintraub, the vice president of the Gold
and Diamond Source in Clearwater, thanked
artist Gines Serran for allowing his 25-foottall,
eight-ton bronze statue to be placed at
the Gold and Diamond Source until it finds a
permanent home. The statue features Hercules
pulling the pillars together.
Rene Gonzalez, who was the artistic
director of the Spanish Lyric Theatre that
he founded in 1959 before retiring from
that position last year, has returned to
direct a “zarzuela,” The Girl With the
Roses, for the theatre group. The show
was sung in Spanish and had English
supertitles. No one can do zarzuelas
better than Rene. We all hope that he
will do another for the Spanish Lyric
Theatre soon. 9
