water beach recreation 101
Monmouth County’s 27 miles of ocean beaches and 26 miles
of bay beaches are clean, wide and downright spectacular.
Beach Fees & Rules
Monmouth County and the ocean beach
towns focus tremendous energy and
resources on maintaining the beaches,
so expect fees for beach access and/
or parking during the season. Daily
beach badges may be purchased on
site. Seasonal passes are also available.
Generally, children are free and senior
citizens pay reduced fees. Some towns
offer free access for active-duty service
men and women and their dependents,
with ID. Bay beaches usually have free
entry. You are welcome to picnic in most
locations, however, glass and alcoholic
beverages are not permitted on the
beach. Beaches exclude pets in season,
and most boardwalks limit bike riding
during the summer.

Bring your board and your enthusiasm to Manasquan,
Belmar, Sea Bright, Asbury Park, Deal or Long Branch to
catch a wave. You’ll find surf shops, equipment rentals,
schools, seasoned locals and endless waves. Summer’s
warm waters make it easy to enjoy, but the surfing season is
year-round, with the big swells that come with cooler water—
some even say winter is the best time to surf the Atlantic.
