The focal point of Ocean Grove is a majestic structure built
in 1894 that seats 6,500. The Auditorium presents worship
services as well as top-name popular and classical artists and
free concerts on the world-famous Hope-Jones pipe organ.

In 1869, a group of Methodist ministers established a
permanent Christian camp meeting community. The
15,000-piece museum collection relates to the history of
Methodism and 19th-century life in the region.

The church was used as a barracks during the Revolutionary War,
and there is a bullet hole in the steeple gilt ball and a musket ball
embedded in the original pulpit. On display are a 1716 “Vinegar”
bible and other artifacts.

Old Christ Church was built in 1836 around timbers of a previous
church on the Middletown Village blockhouse foundation dating
to 1670.

Standing beside the Revolutionary War’s Monmouth Battlefield,
this magnificent Meeting House was built in 1751–53 and served
as a temporary hospital for the American wounded.

St. Peter’s Church, one of five 18th-century Episcopal churches in
NJ and the oldest public building still standing in Freehold, was
begun in 1771 and opened for worship in 1797. The incomplete
church structure is said to have sheltered the wounded during the
Revolutionary War’s Battle of Monmouth in 1778.
Monmouth County Historical Association’s
current exhibition, “Springsteen: His Hometown,”
has been extended through Fall 2021.
This historical exhibit of 150 objects, organized in
cooperation with The Bruce Springsteen Archives and
Center for American Music at Monmouth University, shows
how Monmouth County has been woven into the themes
of Bruce Springsteen’s music and art over the full arc of his
career. Gain a deeper understanding of Bruce Springsteen
and his music as you learn about the history of his family in
Monmouth County, dating back to the 1600s.Visit the MCHA
Museum at 70 Court Street in Freehold, his hometown.
