Jenifer Rutherford has been shooting professionally since earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree in photography from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. In the beginning, she
supplemented her photography by operating a black and white darkroom at a photo lab in
Red Bank and working as a freelance photographer for the Asbury Park Press. A member
of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), Jen also taught photography as an
adjunct lecturer at Monmouth University. The recipient of several awards in local and online
art shows, Jen’s work has been displayed in galleries in NJ, PA and NY, and published in NJ
wedding and local magazines.
“My mom was an artist,” says Jen. “When I was quite young, I used her 126 film Kodak
camera, taking photos during the family camping trips in Maine every fall. Later, I took black
and white photography and graphic design courses in high school, which inspired me to
pursue an art degree.”
Jen has been a wedding photographer for over 20 years. She is often hired for events
and corporate photography, and she offers family and individual portraits. In addition
to photographing people, Jen’s favorite subjects are found in nature: plants, fruits and
vegetables—any living things with beautiful inherent design. “I'll go for a walk and keep my
eyes open for simple compositions in nature or set up a still life at my house using organic
or antique objects,” adds Jen. “I love working in black and white.” Her many fine-art images
are available for purchase. www.jenrutherford.com
