Taoist Tai Chi Dragon
Dunedin metal artist Bill Coleman, the
owner of Arc Angels, fabricated this
Dragon Bike Rack for the Taoist Tai Chi
International Center in Dunedin.
After the unveiling of their Dragon
Bike Rack by Bill Coleman at their
new Center in Dunedin, the Taoist
Tai Chi Society of the United States of
America, as part of its International
Awareness Day, demonstrated this art of
moving meditation. Guests were given
the opportunity to learn the first two
movements of this exercise that improves
balance and increases a person’s ability
to reduce the daily stresses and anxieties
of life. The new International Center of
the Society is being built at the site of
the former Fenway Hotel on Edgewater
Drive in Dunedin.
Butcher Views Cuba
Florida’s greatest nature photographer Clyde
Butcher has the ability to see “the big picture”
through his camera lens. Therefore, when
invited by John Parke Wright to help open
Cuba’s natural beauty to the world, Butcher
followed historic footsteps to find the power
and beauty of the island. Some of these photos
are beautifully reproduced in the book Cuba,
the Natural Beauty, that was published by the
University Press of Florida. The landscapes of
Cuba are as seductively beautiful as the Cuban
people themselves, and Butcher captures this
majestic quality in his images.
The Florida Orchestra Achieves Its Goal
Three years ago, The Florida Orchestra set an ambitious fundraising goal of $25
million in donations and pledges for its “Music for Life” campaign. Donors
throughout the community exceeded that target, as the Orchestra posted its
seventh budget surplus in nine years. This season, Music Director Michael Francis
will make his formal debut, as the Orchestra enters its 48th season. Thomas Farquhar,
the chair of the Orchestra’s board, says that there is still work to be done to build the
strong base that is needed to grow the Orchestra even further.
