Highlights from Our Past Issues
In this issue, we featured a look at
Florida’s Governor Bob Martinez, who
became the Mayor of Tampa in 1979; and
under whose leadership Tampa became
a model for urban growth. In 1983,
he became a Republican; and in 1986,
during his second term as Mayor, he was
elected governor of Florida, where he
became known throughout the country
for his role in our nation’s war against
drugs. Today, Bob and his wife Mary
Jane continue to be involved in the
community, carrying on as leaders
who are admired for their efforts to make
Tampa Bay a better place to live.

Our feature about the Columbia
Restaurant’s 100th Anniversary told
the story of this dining legend from
its beginnings in 1905 and through
the fifth generation of the family
that has made it famous for a
century. Now, ten years later, the
Columbia family of restaurants has
expanded to include its new Ūlëlē
restaurant on the Hillsborough
River and the planned re-opening
of the Goody Goody concept,
as the Gonzmart Family continues
to celebrate the fine art of hospitality
and cuisine.
Richard and Casey Gonzmart celebrated the Columbia’s
75th anniversary in 1980 with their parents Cesar and
Adela Gonzmart.
