TRAPUNTO REVISITED
Trapunto is a classic quilting technique that was created in Italy during the beginning
of the Renaissance. It was a beautiful yet very difficult technique that required time
and patience to complete. To traditionally stuff a quilt, the back side of the quilt had to
be carefully slit open under the elements that were to be padded, and the extra lining
would be inserted bit by bit.
Fast forward, 800 years later, and Anita Goodesign has revised this complex method
used to create trapunto quilts and made it so much easier! No longer do you need to
cut your quilt to add the padding, since it is added before the base fabric is even placed.
Our technique even incorporates stippling that is specifically designed to help the
trapunto rise evenly above the quilt block. It’s a technique that would make Leonardo da
Vinci proud!

by the raised design in the

technique allows the design to be
noticeable, yet remain subtle.
