step-by-step instructions
The tacking stitches will look like this on the back. Sewing slowly
and carefully will avoid shifting and puckering, giving it a smooth
and crisp look.
Start by cutting your binding strips. We cut 6 strips measuring
2½” by 48” for finishing the quilt in block size A, but the amount
of binding you need will vary depending on the size of your quilt.
Next, trim the excess batting and backing from around the tile
scene. Your seam allowance will be ½”. Now we will attach the
binding.
With right sides together (if fabric is directional), lay two strips of
binding perpendicular to each other. Then stitch the two strips
together at a 45 degree angle, using regular sewing thread to
attach the strips.
Starting on a seam line, place binding along the edge. Fold the
starting edge back to make a triangle, creating a finished start
and stop point. Make sure the raw edges of the tile scene and
the binding are placed right sides together. Pin along one edge
at a time.
Trim this seam to ¼” and press open. Repeat until all 6 strips
have been attached, which should be enough to cover your
perimeter plus a few extra inches.
