Behind the trendy and aesthetically
pleasing Instagram pictures
of acai bowls and
smoothie blends, there’s more to Beets
Juice Bar. Owner Jessica Piatt is only 24
years old, but has a genuine vision of
helping people through food. When she
opened Beets in December 2016, it was
partly due to the fact that she couldn’t
find a job post-graduation. But really,
it fulfilled her desire to encourage
people to lead healthy
lifestyles.

As someone
who’s always been into health and fitness,
Piatt began by helping people
achieve their fitness goals as a personal
trainer, but later realized she was actually
focused more on what they were
eating.
“I know personally you can work out
every day, all day and not really achieve
your goals. It’s really about what you eat
and what happens in the kitchen, so I became
obsessive with that,” explains
Piatt.
She found it easier to motivate people
to eat well by providing them with the
food rather than having to convince
them of the benefits. She relates it to
being a health and wellness coach,
knowing that the right kinds of food can
have an impact on your overall physical
and mental well-being.
“I just want to tell people, you’re
going to be okay and you’re going to
feel better. Trust the process,” she said.
Owning your own business is no easy
feat, let alone at 24 years old, but Piatt
