FASAHR ITON
FASHIONABLE FUNDRAISERS
By Margaret Word Burnside
March and April were resplendent with both informal and runway fashion shows to benefit
worthwhile causes in the Tampa Bay area. The committee members and show coordinators
deserve our thanks for the hard work and long hours they put into helping local charities
raise funds. The following are a few of these fashionable fundraisers.
MAY/JUNE 2019 | TAMPA BAY MAGAZINE 71
Marie Beaty, center, Dunedin Youth Guild
president, thanked Vicki Robinson and
Suzy Gizzi for co-chairing “Rock the
Runway,” the group’s 46th Scholarship
Luncheon and Fashion Show at the Conmy
Center in Dunedin to help seniors and
continuing college students. Jane Sweeney
presented fashions from her MJ Fashions
& Gifts, and lunch was from Marguerite’s,
both businesses in Dunedin.
Emily Gillespie and Diane Fair
co-chaired the Florida Orchestra Guild of
St. Petersburg’s “Afternoon Tea” benefit
for The Florida Orchestra, which was held
at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club.
The fundraiser featured informal
modeling of couture fashions, a hat
contest and a special thank you from the
orchestra’s new CEO Mark Cantrell.
Kathy Wilder of Clearwater, whose family
was the presenting sponsor, and
Sue Yessman of Spring Hill helped lead
“Jewels Galore,” the 26th annual Suncoast
Hospice Resale Shops Fashion Show,
Luncheon and Boutique benefit in Palm
Harbor for Empath Health, a not-for-profit
integrated network of care, and its members.
WTSP Channel 10 Anchor Allison Kropff
served as master of ceremonies.
Joan Jaicks, president of the Woman’s Service
League in St. Petersburg, thanked Paula
Blanda and Maureen Gabe for co-chairing
“Be Happy,” the group’s 69th annual
Promenade and Brunch to benefit the Police
Athletic League. Guests enjoyed a fashion
show presented by Megan Simons of Pippa
Pelure Boutique and the recognition of the
2019 Spirit of Service recipients at the
St. Petersburg Yacht Club.
Barbara Green, at right, thanked Ann
Kennedy at the fifth annual “Inspire with
Attire” luncheon and fashion show for
supporting the Homeless Empowerment
Program that Barbara co-founded with her
late husband, the Rev. Otis Green. Fashion
ensembles came from the HEP Thrift Store,
and Tampa Bay Magazine Publisher/Editor

for the fundraiser at the Dunedin Golf Club.

and event coordinator of the “Soar into
Spring Fashions” show, Kay Estock,
